Unusually Unusual Consulting
Sometimes the Greatest Things Happen When You Let Go
From the other side of the world, I watched my team step up in the best possible way.
As entrepreneurs, founders, and leaders, we spend years building something that feels deeply personal. Every process, every client interaction, every event detail carries a little piece of us. And that can make it really hard to let go.
This week reminded me why we have to.
While I was in China, the Unusually Unusual Consulting team was on-site managing the Mitel Executive Partner Summit. Normally, I would have been in the middle of every detail, from checking setups to walking the floor to solving last-minute issues to managing speakers to reading the room to making sure every attendee felt taken care of.
Instead, Hadley-Kate took the lead.
And she absolutely crushed it.
Not only did the event run smoothly, but she handled it with confidence, professionalism, and grace. She made decisions, solved problems, communicated with the client, supported attendees, and represented our company exactly the way I would hope someone would.
Honestly? Probably calmer than I would have.
There’s a moment every leader reaches where they realize scaling a business is not about doing everything yourself. It’s about building people. Trusting people. Giving them room to grow into leadership roles of their own.
That can feel uncomfortable at first. Especially for founders who are used to carrying the weight of everything. But this week was a powerful reminder that when you create the right culture, mentor well, and empower your team, incredible things can happen.
Hadley-Kate didn’t just “cover” the event while I was away. She owned it.
And as proud as I am of the work we delivered for Mitel, I’m even prouder of the team we’re building at Unusually Unusual Consulting.
Because at the end of the day, success is not just about producing great events. It’s about creating opportunities for people to step into their potential.
This week, I got to watch that happen from the other side of the world. And that’s a pretty amazing feeling.
